Healthcare will benefit enormously from a rapid diagnosis, as it holds the potential to revolutionize the industry. For patients, it will provide immense relief to receive prompt test results, allowing them to know their health status as quickly as possible. Moreover, the expedited diagnosis can facilitate swifter treatment initiation, potentially resulting in better outcomes for patients. This urgency underscores the pressing need for the development of new antibiotics.
The pandemic of antimicrobial resistance poses a grave threat, and it is imperative that we bring it to a swift end. Achieving this goal necessitates the implementation of high-quality infection control measures both within and outside medical facilities. In addition to these measures, the development of novel antibiotics is paramount in combating this global health crisis.

Is it true that you tend to develop a certain perspective on healthcare in general over the years and about Infectious diseases in particular?
Yes, certainly. As I have been Professor in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases for many years and as former chairman of the World Healthcare Forum, it has become my strong opinion that Healthcare can be much more efficient and even cheaper.
Can you be more specific?
In the field of Infectious Diseases, the Covid pandemic and the pandemic of infections due do Multiresistant bacteria has learned us that prevention is key.
Can you explain this a bid further?
The Covid pandemic has taken us by surprise. Although several scientists and non scientists (eg.Obama and Bill Gates) have warned us: be prepared! Unfortunately we were not prepared. Fortunately excellent vaccins were developed infact within a year. Vaccinations are the best preventive strategy Vaccinations in general have increased the life expectancy of the world population from 50 to 70 years.
For the pandemic of infections caused by AMR microbes, prevention again is key. Antibiotics were and still are miracle drugs. Unfortunately bacteria over the years became resistant to many antibiotics. Initially this problem was solved by newly developed antibiotics that came on the market almost every yaer. This is not the case anymore. Therefore prevention becomes the buzzword. Hospital Infection Control!
Is there a lesson to be learned for healthcare in general
Yes, certainly also in other diseases prevention is very important. Cardiovacular diseases, even some cases of Cancer can be avoided or postponed by preventing obesity, by not smoking and by sports.
So how do you see the future?
Healthy lifestyles for everyone also for the elderly. Live longer and healthier. We should realize that the Healthcare Costs spend during the last year of our lives is extremely high. It is important to keep the elderly active! This prevent Alzheimer! Make the elderly less depended on others. Think about way show we can finance these costs differently. End of life healthcare costs are sky rocketing. When these costs are paid differently. Lifetime Insurance costs can be lower. End of life Care is in jeopardy duet o lack of manpower. This must and can be solved.
Introduce AI. Patients with serious complaints should have their diagnosis within 48 hours. Eliminate waiting lists. This saves money and lead to fewer working days lost.
